Protests / rallies / demonstrations
I’ve always been pretty skeptical of protests. Peaceful protests worked well for MLK (especially, unfortunately, when they were attacked by police), but they are so common now that it’s tempting to assume most people have learned to ignore them. In some cases they may backfire, if they’re too annoying or turn violent. But according to experts, peaceful protest still works. Though one study said BLM protests didn’t affect voter registration.
I recommend going to unusually large, well-run protests like No Kings, which result in positive news coverage. Try it at least once.
Protests can, aside from making headlines and changing minds, also be good for morale and for networking, which produces longer-term effects on elections.
